Mangalore, Feb 6, 2012: Jaya Karnataka and the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) jointly organized a state-level Boys and Girls Kabbaddi Championship 2012 on Nehru Maidan on Feb 5. Fifty-four teams participated in this event.
Sadashiva Shetty, the secretary of the state-level INTUC, delivered the welcome address and a student achiever of Std VIII lit the lamp to inaugurate the event.
N. M. Adyanthaya, the member of IOL, national vice president, and state president of the INTUC, said in his address that Indians only give importance to cricket, owing to which all other sports have been sidelined. Urging that all sports should be given equal importance, he said that cricket and tennis are the games of the rich whereas Kabbaddi is an affordable game, which originated in India and should therefore be encouraged.
MLA U. T. Khader, A. Sadananda Shetty, and Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the CEO of ZP, also spoke on this occasion, stressing on the importance of giving more importance to Kabbaddi.
