Mangalore, Feb 4, 2014 : Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore inaugurated the new building of the St Anthony Church at Kulur which has a history of 125 years, on February 3, Monday. The Bishop also inaugurated a community hall and residential quarters of the Parish Priest on the occasion.
Rev. Dr Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary who blessed the occasion, said those with dreams in their minds, sympathy in their eyes, a radiance in their face, truth in their lips, love in their heart and an urge to serve the society will become leaders. Such people can bring about social reforms, he added.
Mangalore Bishop Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza who also spoke,said a church is a place where the parishioners arrive to come into contact with the Almighty. The sanctity of the place must always be protected, he said. The Bishop further added that it indeed was praiseworthy that the parishioners of Kulur had themselves raised as much as Rs 4 crores for the church building.The message of Pope Francis was read out on the occasion.
State Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader, Mangalore North MLA Moidin Bava and Harsha Moily were the chief guests.
Fr Herald C D’Souza, Parish Priest who spoke, said the new building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 4 crore in a record 20 month period. Fr Herald was felicitated on the occasion by the Bishop for the hard works put in towards the construction of the new building.
All those who assisted in the construction were honoured with mementoes. Vincent D’Souza, Vice President of the Church Board and others were present.
Earlier, the holy mass was led by the Bishops of Mangalore and Bellary.
