Mangalore, Dec 24, 2012: ’Women are still unsafe in our nation even 65 years after attaining freedom. The independence is meaningless unless and until women are safe and are free from all sorts of exploitation’, said Kendra Sahitya Academy Award winning writer Vaidehi.
She was speaking after inaugurating the valedictory ceremony of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Karavali Lekhakiyara Vachakiyara Sangha at its office at Urvastores in Mangalore on December 23, Sunday. Vaidehi further said it was only when women put up a united fight against exploitation and injustice that a conducive environment will be created for them to lead a secure life. Despite the rapid advancement in the field of science and technology, there have been no innovations which can protect women at times of distress, she regretted.
Dr Sabeeha Bhoomigowda, President of the Karavali Lekhakiyara-Vachakiyara Sangha, presided over the function. Dr H Nagaveni, Professor in Hampi Kannada University, Janaki M Brahmavar, Vice President of the Sangha and Dr Shaila U, Secretary, were also on the dais.
