Indian Open Surfing: Teens Kishore Kumar, Kamali Moorthy crowned champions

Mangaluru, June 4, 2023: In the 4th edition of the Indian Open of Surfing, held at Sashithlu Beach and supported by the Karnataka tourism department, Tamil Nadu’s rising stars, Kishore Kumar and Kamali Moorthy, demonstrated their exceptional skills by dominating both the men’s and women’s divisions, including Groms and Open categories. They emerged as the ultimate champions in their respective categories.

Kishore Kumar claimed the top spot in the men’s open category, earning a well-deserved cash prize of Rs 50,000. Srikanth D secured the second position, taking home Rs 30,000, while Surya P finished in third place with a cash prize of Rs 20,000.

In the women’s open category, Kamali Moorthy showcased her remarkable talent and was rewarded with a cheque of Rs 30,000 for securing the first position. Sugar and Sinchana secured the second and third positions, respectively, earning cash prizes of Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000.

In groms, boys under-16 category, Kishore (Rs 20,000 ); Tayin Arun (Rs 15,000) and Harish P (Rs 10, 000) got the cash prizes for the top three positions. Similarly, girls under-16 saw Kamali, Thanishka and Saanvi winning the top three positions.

Kamali Moorthy also secured the title in the surfing groms under-16 girl’s category. Local girl, Thanishka Mendon from Aquatic Indica Surf School finished as the runner’s- up with a total of 6.43 points. Another Mangalorean surfer, Saanvi Hegde, finished third with a total of 6 points.

The three-day premier surfing competition, organized by the Mantra Surf Club, received immense support from the principal partners Cycle Pure Agarbattis and Jai Hind Group, further adding to the success of the event.
