Mangalore, Feb 22, 2012: The Janatha Dal (Secular) has selected Boje Gowda, the state JD (S) leader and president of the Chikmagalur District Central Cooperative Bank, as its candidate for the upcoming legislative council election from the Southwestern Graduates Constituency.
Making the above announcement at a press meet held at Hotel Woodlands on Feb 22 Wednesday, he said that the constituency includes Udupi, Kodagu, DK, Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Honnali, and Chennagiri taluks.
He also stated that BJP candidate D. H. Shankaramurthy, who has won the election four times, has not created any awareness among graduates to register their names. Stating that he has been elected as the president of the state Lawyers’ Association with majority and that there are 80 members in the state besides many others who have not yet registered their names, he said that Shankaramurthy has done nothing in his 25-year-long service.
Criticizing CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda for his government’s failure to fill vacant lecturers’ posts in government colleges and government departments, he questioned Shankaramurthy, demanding to know what benefits he has offered the graduates so far.
Stating that government schools in the state lack basic facilities, he said that the government is not making any efforts to fulfill their demands. Although the lecturers go on strike during every valuation, the government chooses to neglect them, he added.
JD (S) candidate Boje Gowda is the son of H. R. Lakshmaiah, the former MLA, and the brother of Dharma Gowda, the former Birur MLA. He is a practicing lawyer in Chikmagalur, a member of the state bar council, and a state representative at the national bar council.
JD (S) members Prof. Anil Shashiraj Kavoor, M. G. Hegde, and Mohammed were also present at the press conference.
