Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane stages protest; demands resumption of JNNURM bus services

Mangaluru, June 30, 2023: The Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane members staged a protest near the Clock Tower in the city on June 30, Friday demanding resumption of the JNNURM buses in the district. The protestors demanded government bus services on various routes in the district and urged for government bus services on Mangaluru-Moodbidri-Karkala and Mangaluru-Udupi routes.

District President of Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane Jayanthi B Shetty said though 68 buses were sanctioned to the district under JNNURM scheme of them, 18 were allowed to travel upto State Bank area while the rest were allowed to operate outside the city.  A High Court stay was later secured by private bus operators and the high court had directed to settle the issue at the district level, she said.

Another leader of the organisation Padmavathi Shetty said more government buses must be pressed into service to allow women to reap benefit from the Shakti scheme of the state government.

Vasanth Achary, District President of Beedi Workers Federation and many leaders and members of Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane took part in the protest.
