Mangaluru, Sep 20, 2016 : The police action of registering rowdy sheet against some leaders of the Nagarika Horata Samithi of Jokatte has met with stiff resistance from the locals. On September 19, Monday residents of Jokatte took out a silent march wearing black badges and holding black flags.
However, as the procession neared Suratkal Junction, the police prevented them from moving ahead resulting in some tension. The protestors sat on dharna on the road and shouted slogans against the local legislator and Suratkal Police Inspector.
Later, DYFI leader Muneer Katipalla who addressed the protestors accused the Suratkal cops of treating activists of the Samithi as rowdies and alleged that the local inspector Cheluvaraju was backing illegal activities in the area. He also warned of severe protest across the district if the rowdy sheet opened against the activists was not closed.
Several leaders including social activists Vidya Dinker, Natesh Ullal,Aboobakker Bava, Santosh Bajal, Samsuddin and others participated in the protest.
Panambur ACP Rajendra later met the protestors and accepted memorandum from them.
