Mangalore, June 12: A seminar titled “Law Relating to Private Security and Investigation” was conducted by the Mangalore Bar Association in collaboration with the Department of Security and Detective Science of MIFT College at SDM Law College on June 12, Saturday. District and Session Court Judge H. R. Deshpande inaugurated the event and said that modern society, though dynamic, does not enjoy excellent life quality owing to overpopulation and declining social values.
Speaking about the development of private investigation in society, he urged private investigators to use scientific tests such as DNA and narco analysis and conduct investigations with intelligence and sharpness.
The demand for private security has shot up owing to the increase in business establishments, he said adding that private multi national companies have come up with suitable security solutions. He spoke of the importance of governing private security industries with private security law, informing his listener that the government of India had enacted a private security law in 2005 and that the state government had enforced private security law in 2007.
In his presidential address, IGP Gopal Hosur said that the Indian police are already familiar with private security. Speaking about the difficulties of policing the entire system, he said that each village appointed a group of people to ensure the safety and security of the entire village, acting as a bridge between the police and the people of the village.
Retired Head of the Department of Criminology and Forensic Science of Karnataka University Dr. Shrikanth V. Mangsuli presented a seminar titled “Legal Aspects of Forensic Evidence.” Mr. Ashwinder Singh Lamba, CEO of 360 Degrees Investigations in New Delhi, spoke on the topic “Relevance of Private Investigation in Law and Security.” Mr. M. K. Nagaraj, the former IGP of the state of Karnataka presented a seminar on “Need to Regulate Security and Investigation.”
Dr. P. S. Yadpadittaya, the registrar (evaluation) of Mangalore University, was the guest of honor. Dr. Aroor Prasad Rao, the chairman of ALN Charitable Trust; MG Hegde, the director of MIFT College; SP Chengappa, the president of Mangalore Bar Association; and Elizabeth Neeliyar, the vice president of Mangalore Bar Association, were the other guests of the occasion.
