Udupi, May 3: The Udupi district unit of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) has urged the district administration to arrange for a discussion between the farmers affected by the coal-based thermal plant of Udupi Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL) and Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa during the latter’s visit to Kutyar in district on May 9. Addressing presspersons after submitting a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner P. Hemalatha, president of the unit Vijaykumar Hegde said though the KRRS brought the sufferings of farmers to the notice of Mr. Yeddyurappa many times, he had not bothered to visit the affected areas.
When a delegation of KRRS met Mr. Yeddyurappa recently, he said that he would send a committee of experts to the region and close down the company if it was creating problems to the people. But so far, no committee visited the region. Mr. Yeddyurappa would visit Kutyar village to participate in a “Atirudra yaga” on May 9. Kutyar was close to the thermal plant.
The affected farmers would attend the “Atirudra yaga” in large numbers. Ms. Hemalatha should help farmers to have a discussion with Mr. Yeddyurappa.
