Mangaluru, February 23, 2025: The ‘Good for Good Charitable Trust’, a new initiative by a group of like-minded youth committed to education, culture and social service, was formally inaugurated on Saturday, February 22, with a unique Kaavi Art Workshop at the Government Higher Primary School, Bikarnakatte.

The event was made special by an unconventional lighting of the lamp ceremony, where two young children had the honor of inaugurating the programme. The workshop, organized in collaboration with Kaavi Art Foundation and Bhavana Pratishtana, aimed to introduce students to Kaavi Kale, a traditional mural art form of the coastal region that is on the verge of extinction.

Speaking after inaugurating the event, Rajeevi, headmistress of the school, emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous art forms and expressed happiness that such an initiative had reached their school. “Programmes like these not only enrich students but also encourage enrollment in government schools,” she said and recalled a previous artistic contribution to the school’s walls by artist Janardhan Havanji and the architecture students of Srinivas Institute.

Artist Janardhan Havanji, who led the workshop, highlighted the significance of reviving Kaavi Kale and creating awareness about its fading legacy. “Kaavi Kale Kishore Workshop (Ka.Ka.Ki) is part of an ongoing effort to introduce such heritage arts to students, with plans for further workshops in government schools through private collaborations,” he said.

Nearly 100 students enthusiastically participated in the workshop, gaining hands-on experience in Kaavi Kale under the guidance of resource persons Vikram Suvarna, Keerthi Kumar, and Deepa.

The official ‘Good for Good’ website  (www.goodforgood.in) was also launched on the occasion. The trust’s president, Akshay Suvarna, was present, along with vice president Sathyaraj, members Sachith, Prajnesh, Ishan, Gurumurthy, Pavan, Rathan, Roshan, Ananth, and faculty members. The programme was compered by Sharmila Ameen.
