Kadaba: Operation underway to trap wild elephant that killed 2 persons

Subrahmanya, Feb 22, 2023: The operation by the Forest department to trap the wild tusker that trampled two persons including a young woman to death at Meenadi Naila in Kadaba taluk, is underway. Specially trained pachyderms are used by the Forest Department. It is learnt three wild elephants are in the area.

The operation is being jointly undertaken by the Forest Department and District Administration. Five elephants have been brought from Dubare and Titimathi for the purpose. Forest personnel and veterinarians are at the spot.

The operation at Naila, Renjilady, Bantaje, Noojibaltila, Puttige and other areas has revealed the presence of three wild elephants. Drones are also being used to track the wild elephants.

This is the first time that tamed elephants are used to trap wild elephants in Dakshina Kannada district.

DFO of Mangaluru Division Y K Dinesh Kumar said the Forest team will leave the spot only after trapping the wild elephants.

Several people are arriving at the spot to watch the operation.
