Kadaba youth in coma since eight months after taking care of Nipah patient

Kadaba, July 29, 2024: Titto Thomas (24), son of Thomas T C of Tumbya in Aithur village of Kadaba taluk is in coma since the past eight months after contracting Nipah virus in the aftermath of him taking care of a Nipah patient in Kerala.

Titto Thomas, a BSc (Nursing) graduate was serving as a nurse at a hospital in Calicut where in September 2023 he took care of a Nipah patient.  Later he was in quarantine and after two months developed severe head ache and when a scanning was done it was learnt he had suffered a brain stroke. The hospital himself treated him for the past several months and has now said it was unable to manage anymore as it had spent nearly Rs 40 lakh on his treatment.

The family is now in dire straits and a brother of Titto has even quit his job in Bengaluru to take care of him. The family is now seeking government help.
