Karkala: 2 arrested in case of abduction, sexual assault of young woman

Karkala, August 24, 2024: Police have arrested two persons in connection with the case of raping a young woman in Karkala town police station limits on Friday evening.

Udupi SP Dr K Arun has informed that the police arrested accused Altaf and Sudhira and have seized two vehicles from them.

It is learnt Altaf and the victim had come into contact through social media three months ago. On Friday, Altaf had asked the girl to meet him at a place. When she went there she was reportedly abducted.

The woman in her complaint has alleged that the accused had laced the drink offered to her with intoxicants and had then raped her.  According to the police the arrested person Sudhira had brought the drink which was given to the girl.

It is learnt later the accused had dropped the woman near her home in his car.

The woman who was severely ill was admitted to Karkala Hospital and then to the Manipal hospital.

Several people including activists of Hindu organisations had gathered outside the Karkala police station on Friday night on coming to know about the incident.
