Karkala, March 26, 2025: The Karkala police have arrested a 24 year-old man from Byndoor who allegedly broke into educational institutions and escaped with valuables, including cash. The police also recovered valuables worth ₹3 lakh from him.
The Udupi district police gave the name of the accused as Archith Avinash Dodre. He was arrested by a police team led by Karkala Circle inspector of police D.R. Manjappa on March 20 near St. Lawrence High School at NITTE in Karkala taluk. The accused has since been remanded in 14 days judicial custody by a jurisdictional court.
The police said the accused has admitted to a few cases of housebreaking and theft at educational institutions reported in the district. They include stealing ₹1.5 lakh cash and three DVRs from St. Joseph English Medium School in Belman; stealing ₹60,000 cash and CCTV cameras from St. Mara Gorati English Medium School, Hirgana, and breaking open a cupboard and damaging articles at Government HPS, Nandalike, all in Karkala taluk.
The police recovered a car and other material used by the accused to commit thefts. The police team comprised Karkala Town PSI Shivakumar, personnel Ranjith and Shivanand, Karkala rural police personnel Chandrashekhar and Ajekar police personnel Satish and Pradeep.
