Kasargod, Dec 14, 2022: The Kasargod District Additional Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a case of strangulating a woman to death for monetary gains.
The convict is Abdul Khader (32) of Vidyanagar Kunjaru Kotekani. The court has also slapped a penalty of Rs 1.5 lakhs on him. The third accused in the case Arshad (28) has been acquitted while another accused Abdul Azeez (36) is absconding ever since escaped from police custody in September 2018.
The incident had taken place on January 17, 2018. Khader and the other accused had been to the house of the victim Zubaida (60) of Uduma Ayampara on the pretext of taking a look at the site. They had asked for water and as Zubaida went in the men had barged in and strangled her to death and escaped with jewellery weighing 27 grams which was in the house.
As Zubaida stayed alone, the incident had come to light the next day. The stolen jewellery which was sold to a jewellery store at Kasargod has been recovered by the police consequent upon the arrest of the accused.
Abdul Khader who was working near the house of Zubaida had kept a watch on her movements and suspected that she might be having plenty of gold and cash in her house and committed the act.
