Kaup : Bus driver’s presence of mind averts major mishap

KAUP, Jan8,2013: The presence of  mind of the driver  of a  bus which suffered a brake failure on Pangala bridge on the afternoon of January 7, Monday, helped in averting a major tragedy.

 

 

The driver of the bus  had risked his own life to save the passengers of the bus which was full to capacity, by hitting the bus against a lorry which was moving ahead of the bus. But for his timely action, the bus would have rolled off the bridge resulting in several casualties.

 The private express bus  was heading towards Udupi from Kaup when the mishap took place. No sooner the bus hit against the lorry, the lorry driver too realizing the gravity of the situation, steered the lorry to the roadside before halting. 

A few passengers of the bus sustained minor injuries in the mishap and received treatment in a local hospital. The passengers were all praise for the driver’s presence of mind. Kaup police have registered a case.
