Mangaluru,Feb 6, 2025: In a dramatic development in the Bolanthur robbery case, where criminals posed as Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials to raid the residence of businessman Sulaiman Haji, the Vittal police have arrested four additional suspects, including a serving Kerala police officer.
The arrested officer, Shaheer Babu (49), an assistant sub-inspector from Kodungallur Police Station in Thrissur, is believed to be the mastermind behind the heist. Alongside Babu, the police apprehended Iqshal Parliya Bantwal (38), Sirajuddin Narsh (37), and Ansar Bajal (28).
Investigations revealed that Babu provided key guidance to the gang, including details on planning the robbery and evading capture. He allegedly accepted a share of the stolen money and continued with his police duties following the crime. Babu is also accused of tipping off the gang about police movements, aiding their escape when authorities were closing in.
The robbery, which took place on January 3, involved a gang impersonating ED officials to raid the home of Sulaiman Haji, a prominent Singari Beedi owner in Bolanthur. Previously, three other suspects—Anil Fernandes, Sachin, and Shabin, all from Kottayam, Kerala—had been arrested in connection with the case.
With these latest arrests, the number of suspects in custody has risen significantly. However, the primary accused, who posed as the ED officer during the heist, remains at large. A massive search operation is underway to apprehend the fugitive.
Authorities continue to investigate the case, which has exposed the alarming misuse of official identities for criminal activities.
