Kotekar Bank robbery: Accused shot at for attacking cops, trying to flee

Mangaluru, January 22, 2025: The City Crime Branch Police, on January 21, Tuesday opened fire at one of the accused in the Kotekar Co-operative Bank dacoity case, after the latter tried to flee by attacking cops escorting him for spot mahajar near Katungara Gudde in Talapady.

The accused Kannan Mani (36) of Mumbai has been hospitalized after he suffered bullet injuries in his leg during the firing. The spot mahajar was being done in Katungara Gudde on the Karnataka-Kerala border area when Mani picked up a beer bottle lying on the ground, broke it and attacked escort personnel Anjanappa and Nitin. He even pushed Ullal Inspector who is also the investigation officer. Despite warnings by firing in the air by CCB Inspector, the accused tried to escape and was shot at and taken into custody.

Ullal Inspector Balakrishna, CCB Constable Anjanappa and Ullal Police Constable Nitin were injured in the attack by the accused.
