Mangaluru, Nov 30, 2014: Senior Congress leader and former union minister B Janardhana Poojary who has been the rallying force behind several reforms initiated at Shree Gokarnanatha Temple at Kudroli in the city, now plans another historic move. To organise free widow-remarriage ceremony.
Speaking to media men here on November 29, Saturday, Poojary said the plans are to hold the widow re-marriage during the next Mangaluru Dasara celebrations and that widows from all communities are welcome to be part of the initiative.
Poojary on this occasion also informed that he got the idea after he received a letter from a 40 year old man stating he was willing to marry a widow from any religion. Poojary said he would arrange a free marriage for the letter writer if he visits the shrine.
On the controversy over Made Snana and Yede Snana, Poojary said both are not acceptable and Urulu Seve was the best option to seek God’s blessings. The Gokarnanatha Temple organises Urulu Seve during Shashti, he said.
Continuing Poojary said doing Made Snana would only be inviting diseases.
Referring to the Kambala ban in the district, Poojary suggested the Kambala organisers to first submit a memorandum to Union Law Minister DV Sadananda Gowda and request him to relax the Prevention of Cruelty on Animals Act so that Kambala could be organised provided the animals are not whipped.
