Kundapur: Student’s plea for exam marks found in temple donation box, goes viral

Mangalore Today News Network

Kundapur, March 28, 2025: In a rare and heartfelt incident, a student’s desperate plea for specific exam marks was discovered inside a temple donation box at Hommide near Hakladi.

The request surfaced on March 24 when the management of the Holmage Bobbarya Daiva Sthana opened the donation box in the presence of local residents, ten days after the temple’s annual Halu Habba and Kenda Seve rituals on March 14.

Student plea

Amidst the usual monetary offerings from devotees, a handwritten letter was discovered. In it, a student meticulously listed the exact marks they hoped to score to just pass their exams. The requested marks were: Mathematics – 36-39, English – 37-39, Kannada – 39-40, Science – 38-39, Hindi – 39-40, and Social Studies – 37-38.

At the top of the letter, the student had written: “I must get these marks; divine intervention of Bobbarya Daiva is my only hope.” At the bottom, they further pleaded: “Dear deity, please do not let me get anything less than this.”

The letter contained no name or address, leaving the identity of the writer unknown. While the class was not mentioned, it is believed to be from an SSLC student appearing for the ongoing board exams.

Since its discovery, the letter has gone viral on social media, capturing widespread attention and amusement.
