Kundapur, May 17, 2013: The ground leveling work for the proposed flyover near Shastri Circle here on the NH 66 has begun as part of the four-laning project between Kundapur and Talapady, much to the relief of residents of the town.
The Navayug Construction Company has been awarded contract of the project. The 150m flyover will pass from Gandhi Maidan near Shastri Circle and will pass in front of RN Shetty Hall and will end near Hariprasad Hotel. Pillars will be constructed at a distance of 30 m and the flyover will be a two-way road.
The four-lane works which had began almost one and a half years ago, though initially progressed at a very good pace, later some technical problems created a stumbling block.
Though an embankment was initially proposed at Shastri Circle it was opposed by various organizations including Kundapur Ulisi Horata Samithi and Kundapur Nagarika Hitarakshana Samithi.
The fly over project was approved after local organizations under the leadership of MP Jayaprakash Hegde held discussions on the issue.
Presently, shops located close by the place where the flyover would come up , have been razed to the ground.
