Kundapura: Three Brothers Swept Away at Kodi Beach: Two Dead, One Rescued

Kundapura, Dec 8, 2024: Tragedy struck at Kodi Beach this evening as three brothers were swept away by strong waves while swimming. Two of them lost their lives, while one was rescued in the nick of time.

The deceased have been identified as Dhanraj (23) and Darshan (18), sons of Damodar Prabhu and Chitrakala Prabhu of Amparu village, Moodubage. The rescued brother, Dhanush (20), is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kundapura.

The brothers, who had come to Kodi Beach with their family earlier in the evening, had entered the sea for a swim. It is reported that they were caught in powerful waves and swept away.

Tourists and locals present at the scene immediately sprang into action to rescue them. Dhanush was pulled to safety and rushed to a private hospital, where he remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit. Dhanraj was also found shortly afterward but succumbed to his condition. A search operation later led to the recovery of Darshan’s body near the beach.

Dhanraj was employed at Wipro, while Darshan was a second-year pre-university student at Kundapura Junior College. Dhanush is currently a student at NITK Surathkal.

Kundapura police have visited the site and registered a case regarding the incident. Investigations are underway.
