Labourer finds abandoned newborn

Mangalore, Oct 31: An abandoned newborn female baby was found in a drain near Chembarpu House, Kaniyoor, Kanyana in Bantwal. Fortunately, the baby was alive and is currently receiving treatment in Wenlock Hospital.

Monappa Shetty, who works in the house of Shyama Bhat, heard the infant’s wails and began investigating. As soon as he found the baby, he called 108. The child was given a bath, taken to Wenlock Hospital, and is currently under observation in the ICU.

Monappa Shetty wants to adopt the baby girl because he already has 2 boys. He wife also wants the baby girl. Accordingly, the couple has applied for adoption and has requested the authorities concerned to move the baby to a hospital in Vittal, a place close to his home. The authorities of Wenlock Hospital, however, say that they need a week to move the baby.

Nobody knows the baby’s parents or why they abandoned her.
