Panaji, Jul 3, 2013: Incessant rains triggered a major landslide on the Goa-Karnataka border in the wee hours today, disrupting traffic flow on the crucial Anmod Ghat that links the two states.
Officials said that mud and boulders fell on the road in the ghat section, around six kilometres away from the Goa check post.
"The incident occurred at 2 AM, as heavy rains lashed the Anmod Ghat section along with Goa last night. The road, which serves as a link between Goa and Karnataka, has been disconnected," a district administration official said.
Collem Police, led by inspector Jivba Dalvi, has rushed to the site to control the traffic.
District Collector N D Agarwal, along with the disaster management team, has also reached the spot to initiate the task of clearing the road. This route is used by several hundred vehicles everyday.
Due to heavy rain in Konkan area, the patter of train services has been modified today (on 03-07-2013) as under:
Late running trains
1. Train No.16345, Lokmanya Tilak(T) – Thiruvananthapuram Central Netravathi Express scheduled to arrive at Mangalore Junction at 05.55 hours, is expected to arrive only at 16.00 hours.
2. Train No.12619, Lokmanya Tilak(T) – Mangalore Central Matsyagandha Express, scheduled to arrive at Mangalore Central at 10.25 hours, is expected to arrive only at 16.45 hours.
3. Train No.12133, CST Mumbai – Mangalore Junction Express, scheduled to arrive at Mangalore Junction at 15.15 hours, is expected to arrive only at 18.00 hours.
Rescheduled trains
1. Train No.16348 Mangalore Central – Thiruvananthapuram Express scheduled to leave Mangalore Central at 14.20 hours is re-scheduled to leave at 18.00 hours.
2. Train No.12134 Mangalore Junction – CST Mumbai Express, scheduled to leave Mangalore Junction at 16.45 hours, is re-scheduled to leave at 19.00 hours.
