There were 16 trainees who held international certificates for advanced life-saving skills. The training programme was organized by the Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project, Surf Life-saving Australia, and Rashtriya Life-saving Society. The trainers of the event were Ankit Wagh and Mat Thomson of Australia.

The purpose of this programme was to convey the message that anybody can save a life and that this inbuilt life-saving skill component helps in the development of survival techniques such as sculling, floating, treading water, and basic non contact rescue skills such as wade and reach rescue and how to enter and exit the water safely.

Knowledge of water safety is essential to increase awareness of dangers and develop strategies to enjoy the aquatic environment safely.  The programme has been conducted in order to provide participants with the required skills to recognize emergencies, create action plans to deal with drowning people or those suffering from a cardiac arrest, and providing post care.
