Mangaluru, November 28, 2024: A group of 23 filmmaking students of Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO) attended the prestigious International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2024 in Goa. This golden opportunity allowed them to immerse themselves in the world of cinema, interact with celebrated filmmakers and gain practical insights into the craft and industry of filmmaking.
The students were privileged to attend enlightening sessions conducted by renowned personalities, including actors Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher, Randeep Hooda, Ranbir Kapoor, Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya. They also had the rare chance to learn from acclaimed filmmakers like Mani Ratnam, Rana Daggubati and Tisca Chopra. These interactions provided an invaluable glimpse into the creative processes, challenges and trends shaping contemporary cinema.
The festival showcased a diverse array of films from across the globe. Among the standout screenings were films that had won accolades at Cannes, including All We Imagine as Light, Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know and Be Qayaam. These thought-provoking films offered the students a deeper appreciation of storytelling techniques and global cinematic trends.
In addition to film screenings, the students participated in masterclasses focusing on key aspects of filmmaking such as sound design, cinematography and film distribution. These sessions were helmed by industry experts, providing technical knowledge and practical skills that are crucial for aspiring filmmakers.
The cultural experience of IFFI extended beyond films, as the festival also featured captivating musical performances by popular bands like Yellow Diaries and When Chai Met Toast. These performances added a vibrant dimension to the event and highlighted the synergy between music and cinema. The exposure to such a dynamic environment was instrumental in broadening the students’ understanding of the global film industry. They had the opportunity to network with professionals, opening doors to potential collaborations and career opportunities.
