Mangalore, April 11: Lions Club of Milagres launched a campaign to save tigers on April 11, Sunday, in Jeppinamogaru at Mangalore. TV actress and Secretary of GNS Yamini Foundation Shobha M Lolanath participated in this campaign.
The organizers informed press people that public awareness regarding the illegal killing of tigers should be created. Mentioning the fact that tigers are killed because of the greed of the rich and the demand for tiger nails among superstitious people, they said that poaching and killing of tigers can be stopped only if the commercial activities of selling tiger products such as skin and nails is stopped.
Posters and stickers related to the campaign were released. Shobha Lolanath put up the posters in shops in a bid to create public awareness about the ill effects of deforestation and illegal killing of tigers.
Lion R Mahabal Shetty, Governor of Lions Club Ln J K Rao, Lion Philip Pereira, Mr. Harish P, and other dignitaries were present during the occasion.
