Mangalore Today News Network

The Lokayukta, Justice N. Santhosh Hegde, informed reporters that the Lokayukta will not investigate the recent land scams because a judicial enquiry into the same has already been ordered by the state government. He added that the Lokayukta might take up the case if the judicial investigation report is found to be biased and partial, as long as it receives a formal complaint in this regard. He also clarified that the Lokayukta lacks the required suo moto powers to investigate cases on its own.

The Lokayukta interacted with reporters on the sidelines of the College Day celebrations of Capitanio Composite PU College on Nov 10, Friday, to which he had been invited as the chief guest. A 45-minute interactive programme between the Lokayukta and the students of the composite college was held at 9:25 a.m. in the college premises.

He said that would not oppose the appointment of a former Supreme Court judge to inquire into the allegations of land scam against chief minister BS Yeddyurappa.

MLA Captain Ganesh Karnik was the guest of honor. Lamenting that the younger generation uses education as a tool to grab lucrative jobs, he said that education should actually lead to enlightenment. He gave away prizes to the winners of various competitions, during which he personally congratulated each winner, a gesture that was greatly appreciated by students as well as parents.

Sr. Humbeline, the correspondent of Capitanio Institutions, presided over the programme; and Principal Sr. Harriet delivered the welcome address. A colorful cultural programme marked the end of the event.
