Mangaluru, December 11, 2024: A court in Moodbidri has sentenced the driver of a mini lorry to two years of imprisonment in connection with an accident that claimed the life of a woman and seriously injured a boy.
The accident took place on December 6, 2020 when the lorry driven by Rajesh Poojary knocked down a pedestrian Sukhalatha (45) and a 12 year old boy at Haleyangady junction. Sukhalatha had later died in the hospital.
Police had arrested the lorry driver for rash and negligent driving. Later a charge sheet was filed.
The court has also slapped a penalty of Rs 5000 on the driver. He will have to undergo additional 30 days of jail if he fails to pay the penalty. The driver has also been sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment under Section 279 and 338 of the IPC.
