MCC launches garbage management programme

Mangalore, Jan 10: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has launched a door-to-door collection of garbage and segregation of waste at Urwa Market on Jan 10, Monday. Two separate bins have been provided to collect waste from restaurants and houses.

 

 

 

 

DC Subodh Yadav inaugurated the waste segregation programme, and said that the MCC has provided green bins for decomposable waste such as vegetables and food and blue bins for plastic material. Stating that waste collection and segregation is a profitable business, he said that a global tender has been called for three packages and waste management will commence within 6 months in the Pacchanady dumping yard.

Mayor Rajani Dugganna, who presided over the event, said that waste segregation is excellent work, which commenced in the city and requires public cooperation. She said that each family will have to provide Rs. 30 for waste collection and co-operate with the MCC.

The programme will commence in 3 wards; and on Jan 13, the programme will be launched on Ganapathi High School Road and Shaktinagar. While families will have to pay Rs. 30 each, hotels will have to pay Rs. 50 – 500, marriage hall will have to pay Rs. 100 – Rs 500, and vegetarian and non vegetarian markets should pay a monthly fee compulsorily.

MCC Commissioner Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash said that awareness will be created in every college and school. Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, Naveenchandra, Roopa D. Bangera, Ashwini Kumar, Geetha Nayak, and social worker Prabha Kudva were also present.
