Mangaluru, January 20, 2025: MLC Ivan D’Souza has alleged that except for Kavoor STP the remaining three STPs in MCC limits are in total disarray. Though the MCC is spending Rs 1.5 crore on each STP, sewage water is flowing in storm water drains and gutters. He further questioned whether this was the achievement of the BJP administration in the MCC.

Speaking to reporters at his office on Monday, he said a fact finding report by the fact finding committee led by MCC opposition leader on the issue of supply of untreated water and unsatisfactory functioning of STPs, has been submitted to the Chief Minister and District in-charge Minister during their recent visit to the city. The in-charge minister has assured to hold a meeting of MLAs, MPs and Corporators in Bengaluru, he said.

The fact finding committee report has also been submitted to the new Commissioner of MCC, Ivan informed.

He said the maintenance works of the STP at Pachanady, Bajal and Madya must be handed over to the MRPL. The STP at Madya in Suratkal does not receive waste water and the STP also does not have generator facility. The resultant effect is that all waste water has contaminated water sources in Khandige endangering the fishing fair held at Khandige every year.

He said no staff was found at STP Madya, still salary is provided to 13 people for STP maintenance. He said protest will be held by locking up the STP if measures are not taken to restart it.

Drainage water is flowing in Jeppinamogaru Rajakaluve giving rise to fear of spread of contagious diseases, he added.

MCC Opposition leader Anil Kumar, Corporators Shashidhar Hegde, Naveen D’Souza, Praveen Chandra Alva and others were present.
