Mangaluru, January 8, 2025: Mayor Manoj Kumar said on Tuesday that people should not be carried away by the statements of some Congress leaders that the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) is supplying untreated drinking water to some areas in the city.
he Mayor said in a statement that the remarks of the Congress leaders are politically motivated.
He said that the corporation is supplying drinking water only after treating it at different levels in the respective treatment units. Water quality is being checked daily in a laboratory and supplied only after ascertaining that it is fit for drinking.
“People should not heed false information,” he said.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of the corporation C.L. Anand, in a separate release, said that no drinking water-related health issues have been reported in the city. Hence people need not panic and the corporation is committed to protecting the health of the people.
Commissioner clarifies
The Commissioner said that water quality is being tested at two laboratories: one at the Thumbe pumping station and another at the Bendoor pumping station. The process of upgrading the laboratory at Bendoor to NABL standards is under progress.
Chlorination of water is being done at Panambur, Thumbe, and Bendoor pumping stations. In addition, the quality of water collected from wards and pump houses is tested at the laboratory of the College of Fisheries every month.
It may be mentioned here that some Opposition Congress members in the corporation council’s monthly meeting recently had alleged that the corporation is supplying untreated drinking water to some areas. The Congress leaders reiterated the same at a press conference in the city on Monday.
