Mangaluru, January 9, 2025: Mayor Manoj Kumar Kodikal has clarified that only treated water is supplied to the city corporation limits from Thumbay and refuted the charges of opposition Congress corporators that half of the city was receiving untreated water.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the Mayor said he has visited the water purification unit at Bendur and did not find any loopholes. He clarified that untreated water is not being supplied and accused the opposition of leveling politically motivated allegations.
When it is the truth that treated water is supplied, there is no need for any fact finding by the Congress, the Mayor said and added that the drinking water supplied to Mangaluru is being subjected to lab test at Fisheries College every month.
He clarified that drainage water does not seep into Thumbay dam area and that all wet wells and STPs related to underground drainage system are in the lower areas of the dam.
On complaints that drainage water is entering Gujjarakere and Kavoor lake, the Mayor said a few lakes have been developed after the BJP came to power in the city. He further added that he would look into the issue and initiate action.
