Mangaluru, January 30, 2025: Mayor Manoj Kumar on Wednesday announced the holding of Mayor’s Cup State-level Swimming Championship by Mangaluru City Corporation in association with We One Aquatic Club on February 2 at the Yemmekere International Swimming Pool here.
Mr. Kumar told presspersons here that the championship would be held in 14 categories for boys and girls. It was being organised for a non-medalist category to encourage budding swimming talents, the Mayor said.
He said that, in all, there would be 70 individual events and six relay events at the championship. More than 350 swimmers from Mysuru, Bengaluru, Belagavi, Mandya, Puttur, Hassan, Mangaluru, Kundapura, Karkala and other places were expected to compete in the event that will be conducted at the 50+25 m Olympic-standard pool.
While the first three winners in each category would be given medals and certificates, those scoring the highest points in each category would be given individual championship prizes.
Three teams scoring highest points would get the Mayor’s Cup prize, Mr. Kumar added.
Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader, MP Brijesh Chowta, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor P.S. Bhanumathi, MLAs and MLCs of the district and others would attend the inaugural function. We One president Madhuraj and others were present.
