MLC promises to make efforts to raise honorarium of city corporation councillors

Mangaluru, June 30, 2024: Ivan D’Souza, the newly elected MLC, announced on Saturday his intention to advocate for an increase in the monthly honorarium of city corporation councillors, currently set at ₹6,000.

Speaking after being felicitated by Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur at the council’s monthly meeting, Mr. D’Souza stated that he will address this issue in the upcoming session of the Legislative Council. He also committed to fighting for the implementation of a pension scheme for councillors.

Mr. D’Souza highlighted the significant potential for growth in Mangaluru’s Information Technology, tourism, and medical tourism sectors, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to harness these opportunities for the city’s development.

He further noted that the projects for the new Deputy Commissioner office complex at Padil and the new bus stand in the city have yet to be realized.
