MP Brijesh Chowta urges Siddaramaiah to resign for fair probe in MUDA Scam

Mangaluru, August 19, 2024: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta on Monday called for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to resign in order to uphold the integrity of his office and ensure an impartial investigation into the alleged MUDA scam.

“The Siddaramaiah-led government in Karnataka is deeply entrenched in corruption. By refusing to resign after the MUDA scam came to light, Siddaramaiah has disregarded the values of the Constitution and the trust placed in him by the people,” Chowta stated during a press briefing in Mangaluru.

Chowta argued that if Siddaramaiah has any respect for his office and the Constitution, he should step down immediately. “He can return to his position after undergoing the investigation and proving his innocence,” the MP added.

Chowta further criticized Siddaramaiah, accusing him of betraying the communities he claims to represent. “Siddaramaiah, who has portrayed himself as a leader of Dalits, Ahinda, and backward classes, has betrayed them through this scam. He presents himself as an ’incorruptible’ politician, but by engaging in this scandal, he has stripped the backward classes and Dalits of their rights,” Chowta alleged.

The MP also accused the Siddaramaiah government of undermining the Lokayukta during its 15 months in power. “Siddaramaiah is responsible for weakening the Lokayukta, which was once a model institution in the state, and replacing it with the ACB. By criticizing the Governor for approving the Chief Minister’s prosecution, the Congress is displaying a ’touch me not’ attitude,” Chowta claimed.

Chowta concluded by asserting that the Governor’s approval of Siddaramaiah’s prosecution demonstrates that no one is above the law. “No matter how much this ’corrupt government’ tries to cover up, the truth will eventually come out,” he said, accusing the Congress of attempting to prove that “corruption is in their DNA.”
