Mangaluru, Jan 5, 2025: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to propose significant defence infrastructure initiatives for the district, including the establishment of a Sainik School and a military base in Mangaluru.
In a memorandum submitted during the meeting, Capt Chowta highlighted the importance of fostering patriotism and inspiring youth to serve the nation through these projects. He pointed out that Dakshina Kannada’s reputation for world-class educational institutions makes it an ideal location for a Sainik School, which would also provide substantial academic benefits to students in the region.
The MP further emphasized the need for the Defence Department to recognize the contributions of the district’s heroes, including former Defence Minister George Fernandes, as well as Capt Pranjal and Commander George Martis, who sacrificed their lives for the country. He urged the ministry to take initiatives in Mangaluru to honor their legacy.
During the meeting, Capt Chowta also sought Defence Minister Singh’s guidance on potential defence sector projects that could be implemented in Dakshina Kannada. As a gesture of goodwill, he presented Singh with an artwork depicting Kambla, the traditional buffalo race, symbolizing the rich cultural heritage of the coastal region.
The proposal underscores Dakshina Kannada’s strategic and cultural significance, with Capt Chowta advocating for developments that would benefit both the defence sector and the local community.
