Mangalore, November 2: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel formally inaugurated the official website of Karnataka Beary Sahithya Academy (www.karnatakabearysahithyaacademy.org) on Nov 2, Tuesday and said that Beary language and literature are just as rich and ancient as Tulu language and culture.

Speaking on the need to protect, promote, and preserve local languages and cultural traditions at a time when English is dominating all fields of communication, Kateel lauded the Beary Sahithya Academy for its achievements. Declaring that the BJP is far from a communal party, he said that the state government led by B. S. Yeddyurappa has played a major role in the development of Beary Sahithya Academy by increasing grants to Rs. 40 lakh in its very first year in power.


Former Vice Chancellor of Calicut and Kannur Universities Prof. M. Abdul Rahman, who presided over the event, said that the Beary community should utilize all the benefits of information technology for its development. He said that the Beary community cannot afford to lag behind when the entire world is undergoing revolutionary and unimaginable changes. He also said that education is the most important thing in life because only education can bring basic necessities such as food, shelter, and clothing.


Delivering the introductory address, President M. B. Abdurrahman said that launching an official website was one of the biggest dreams of the academy come true.


Registrar B. Chandrahasa Rai delivered the welcome address. Journalist Hamza Malar compered the programme. MLAs U. T. Khader and Yogish Bhat, academy members Dr. Susheela Upadhyaya, Rahim Uchchil, Shamsuddin Madikeri, and Prof. B. M. Ichlangodu were present for the inauguration ceremony.
