Mangaluru, January 25, 2025: Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta on Friday, January 24, laid the foundation stone for constructing a road to Parakkalu Koraga Colony under Alankar Gram Panchayat limits in Kadaba taluk under Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) at a cost of ₹2.75 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Capt. Chowta Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the JNAMAN scheme in 2023 to provide basic infrastructure to poor and the oppressed classes. Under its guidelines, areas inhabited by Jenu Kuruba and Koraga tribes people were identified in Karnataka and grants were sanctioned, he said.
The MP said immediately after getting elected, he got details about the scheme from the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs and noted that rigorous follow up was required for implementation of such schemes. Besides releasing grants for the road, the Centre has also released ₹2.4 crore towards construction of four multi purpose centres in the district. The State government was yet to release its contribution.
Capt. Chowta said the centre has released about ₹11 crore under JANMAN scheme to Dakshina Kannada district. They would be utilised to improve Atrinje-Sulkeri Road and a bridge in Belthangady taluk, improving Parakalu ST Colony Road in Neeranki village of Puttur taluk and multi purpose centres at Naravi, Panja, Kepu and Madhya villages.
Sullia MLA Bhagirathi Marulya, Alankaru Gram Panchayat president Susheela, Ramakunja GP president Suchetha and others were present.
