Sandhya S. Pai, the managing editor of Taranaga, inaugurated the programme, and said that there is a considerable difference between the problems faced by women in the past and the current conditions. Stating that some women are leading a miserable life even now, she said that all women’s organizations should do something about it.

Explaining her statements, Ms. Pai said that girls are still being married off at a tender age and face mental and physical torture after marriage. Many girls miss getting a higher education because marrying them off is considered to be more important, she said and added that the decrease in the number of women is also something to be taken seriously, especially by women’s organizations.

Laxmi M. Kumaran released a memento titled Yashaswini. Sumathi Pangal, the president of the Mahila Sabha, delivered the welcome address; and Veena Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.
