Malpe, Sep 17, 2020: Twenty eight fishermen who were on board a purse-seine boat that capsized while returning from fishing, were rescued.
The incident occurred on the night of September 15. The boat named Hanumatheertha belonging to Srikanth Putran of Kanangi in Kodavur village was returning when its steering was cut and the boat went out of control and hit a rock. On coming to know about the mishap, fishermen from Malpe who rushed in four trawl boats rescued all the fishermen and brought them ashore.
The boat has completely submerged and the loss has been estimated at Rs 1.70 crores. Two persons namely Uday and Sadanand who were injured in the mishap have been hospitalised.
