Man allegedly kills wife and son before taking his own life in Mulky

Mulky, November 11, 2024: A 32-year-old man from Mulky allegedly killed his 27-year-old wife and their four-year-old son before taking his own life on a railway track, according to city police reports on Saturday.

The deceased, identified as Kartik Bhat, was found on a railway track near Kalapur station within Mulky police station limits on Friday. The body was severely disfigured, making immediate identification challenging. During a search of the area, police discovered keys to a scooter and a room, which later helped in identifying the deceased.

On Saturday, police located a scooter near the Mahamayi Temple in Belliyur village. Using the key found at the railway track, officers opened the scooter’s storage compartment and recovered documents including the registration certificate, driving license, and insurance policy. The photograph on the driving license confirmed the identity of the deceased as Kartik Bhat.

Upon visiting Kartik’s residence in Pakshikere, police used another key found near his body to unlock the room, where they discovered the bodies of his wife, Priyanka, and their young son, Hriday.

A note allegedly found in Kartik’s diary revealed that he had stabbed Priyanka and Hriday to death before attempting to take his own life inside the house. He then reportedly went to the railway track, where he ended his life by stepping in front of a moving train.

Given that the tragic incident occurred six years after the couple’s marriage, the police have initiated further investigations based on a complaint lodged by Priyanka’s parents, who are from Shivamogga.
