Man arrested after attempting to kill wife with knife in Kundapur

Kundapur, August 4, 2024: An incident occurred on Saturday night in Basroor where the police apprehended a man who attempted to kill his wife with a knife in a dramatic fashion. The injured woman has been admitted to the hospital.

The accused, who attacked his wife with a knife, then barricaded himself inside their home, preventing anyone from entering for over an hour while brandishing the knife and threatening others. When the police and fire brigade arrived at the scene, they made significant efforts to rescue Anita (32), who was injured, by breaking a window and getting inside. She was then taken to a hospital in Kundapur. The accused, Lakshman (38), has been arrested by the police.

The couple, originally from Sagar, had come to work at a retirement home in Basroor. They were given accommodation in a room in a quarter there. Around 9 PM on Saturday, a quarrel occurred which escalated, leading Lakshman to attack his wife with a knife.

Police from the Kundapur (Kandloor) Rural Station, along with the fire brigade and local assistance, rescued the woman. Circle Inspector Jayaram Gowda and Kandloor SI Bhimashekar also visited the scene.

The police faced significant difficulty in arresting the accused who was threatening with a knife. They were unable to enter through the front door as the accused was brandishing the knife. Initially, the police tried to throw chili powder through the room’s window, but the accused managed to evade it. They then used a gas gun but were unsuccessful. Eventually, they attempted to break the front door and another team entered through the window, successfully rescuing the woman and arresting the accused.
