Man convicted of raping minor in coach of stationed train gets 20 years RI

Mangaluru, October 29, 2024: The Additional District and Sessions Court of Mangaluru which is also the Fast Track Court for POCSO cases has sentenced a man from Bantwal to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and has imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000 on him for raping a minor girl in a stationed train at the Mangaluru Central Railway Station.

The man who has been convicted is Abuthahir Alias Shazil of Irvattur in Bantwal. The man had befriended the girl over phone and had brought her to the Mangaluru Central Railway Station on June 22, 2023. It was alleged that he had raped the girl that night between 11 pm and 12 midnight in a coach of the Mangaluru-Madagaon train that was stationed on Platform No. 3.


Court order


The girl had informed this to her mother who had subsequently lodged a missing complaint.

The girl was rescued by the police and the accused was arrested. The then Circle Inspector of Punjalakatte station Shivakumar B had filed the charge sheet.
