Mangalore, Feb 10: A person hailing from Pulikukku in Kodimbala village of Kadaba near Uppinangady lost his life after he was attacked by a wild elephant. The body of the person identified as Kushalappa Gowda was found in the Kumaradhara river.
It is suspected that the tusker might have caught hold of Gowda and threw him into the river. The body was retrieved from the river on February 9, Saturday.
Kodimbala has been facing problems since Friday ever since a rogue elephant made an appearance in the village and wreaked havoc by destroying crops and plantations. It even attacked a calf and killed it. According to the locals, the elephant was first seen at Urumbia area.
In the meantime, there were rumours that a local resident Nagesh has been attacked and killed by the elephant, However Nagesh was found safe at home. Later it came to light that Gowda was missing and the fears came true when his body was recovered.
Puttur ACF AS Abbas who met the aggrieved family assured compensation on behalf of the government. Even BJP leader Krishna Shetty has assured to write to the government in this regard.
