Mangaluru, Dec 8, 2024: In a touching turn of events, a man from Chhattisgarh was reunited with his family after 14 long years, thanks to the efforts of White Doves, a city-based NGO.

The NGO’s founder, Corrine Rasquinha, shared that Shivkumar, the man in question, was discovered living near the bus stand outside the Superintendent of Police office in Pandeshwar, Mangaluru. With no memory of his past, he was taken in by White Doves and provided shelter at their home for destitutes.

According to Rasquinha, Shivkumar displayed signs of mental health challenges, often talking to himself and making sudden loud noises. He would attempt to leave, claiming he wanted to go home but was unable to recall its location. After undergoing treatment and care, Shivkumar gradually regained fragments of his memory, including the names of his uncles and other key details.

Acting on these leads, White Doves’ manager Jerald diligently traced Shivkumar’s family over two weeks, eventually locating his uncle in Chhattisgarh.

Shivkumar’s backstory is one of hardship. After his father’s death in 2008, he moved to Delhi with his mother and uncle, where he worked at construction sites. In 2009, his mother suffered a debilitating fall, leaving her bedridden. His uncles took her back to Chhattisgarh for treatment, leaving Shivkumar in Delhi. When they returned, Shivkumar had disappeared. Years of searching proved futile, and his grieving mother passed away two years ago, still longing to see her son.

Upon being contacted by White Doves, Shivkumar’s family, including his uncle and cousin, traveled to Mangaluru to bring him back home. He is now set to live with his younger brother and family in Chhattisgarh.

Expressing their gratitude, the family thanked White Doves for their tireless efforts. “So far, we have reunited 450 individuals with their families,” said Rasquinha, reflecting on the NGO’s ongoing mission to bring hope and healing to those in need.

Such uplifting stories resonate deeply with the community, showcasing the power of compassion and the importance of institutions like White Doves in bridging broken connections.
