Mangalore, Jan 29, 2013: Veerarani Abbakka Utsava Samithi will organise ‘Abbakka Half Marathon – 2013’ as a part of ‘Veerarani Abbakka decennial celebration’ on February 9 at 7 am.

Speaking to reporters  at Press Club on Jan 29, Tuesday, Committee Working President Dinakar Ullal said that Laxmi Kumaran, DGM, MRPL will inaugurate the half marathon. The marathon covering  a distance of  21.462 kms, will commence from Ullala Abbakka Circle and will pass  through Thokkottu, Natekal, K C Road, Beeri, Kotekar, Kolya, Ambika Road, Over bridge, Thokkottu city, Ullal Dargah, Ullal Municipality road and  Abbakka Circle. The marathon will conclude at Bharath Higher Primary School ground.

 

Ten winners will be awarded with cash prizes totaling to Rs 73.000  at the formal inaugural of the decennial celebrations the same evening. The first place holder will receive a cash award of Rs 20,000. Cash awards of Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000, Rs 6,000, Rs 5,000, Rs 4,000, Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and  Rs 1,000 will be awarded to the next nine winners respectively. The participants who will complete the marathon will be given  certificates, he added.

He also said that on Jan 30, Wednesday, the committee in association with leaders from various parties will stage a protest in front of DC Office to urge the state and union governments to rename Mangalore International Airport as ‘Rani Abbakka International Airport’.
