Mangalore: Bishop launches ‘Divine Word’-24x7 Catholic religious channel

Mangalore, Dec 23, 2012: Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore, inaugurated Divine Word, the first Catholic 24 x 7 religious channel launched by the Dioceses of Mangalore and Udupi at a function held at Milagres Church Grounds here on December22, Saturday. The Bishop released pigeons into the air to mark the launching of the Channel.


Speaking on the occasion, the Bishop while stressing on the role of mass media in the modern world, said the new channel would be an ideal means to promote the religion and to spread the Divine message.

He was also appreciative of the initiative taken by the Western Institute of Technology Chairman Stephen Mendes in launching the channel. The Bishop also conveyed his Christmas wishes to the gathering.


Rev.   John S Sadananda, Bishop of CSI and Fr Denis Moras Prabhu, Vicar General of Mangalore Diocese  blessed the occasion.


The Bishop of Mangalore Diocese felicitated David Frank Fernandes, Vice President of the channel’s managing committee, Elias Sanctis, Sadananda Shetty of Shree Devi Education Trust, Ivan Mendes and Alwyn Walter D’Souza, patrons of the channel.


Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes, who was also present as a chief guest said the need of the hour was to spread the message of peace and love in the society at a time when several disturbing incidents were taking place around us.


Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker, Abhayachandra Jain, MLA, Fr Santosh Kamath, Fr Victor Vijay Machado, Naveen D’Souza, Corporator, Fr Franklin Monteiro, Rajesh Mendes, Gregory Mendes, Sunil Mendes, Ashwin Pereira,  Anil Lobo and several others were present.


Carols were presented by Divine bass band. A Play titled ‘Peace be with you’ was staged by Immaculate Conception Church, Kinnigoli.

Christmas celebrations were also held on the occasion.
