Mangalore, Dec 17, 2012: Sri Rama Sene activists sat on a protest inside the Campus of Canara Pre-University College in Mangalore on December 17, Monday, after the Principal reportedly denied entry to a Ayyappa Vrithadhari student. The Activists also were seen shouting slogans against the College Principal.
Rakshith Kumar Rao, a first year PUC student of the College, who was an Ayyappa Vrithadhari, had been reportedly asked by the Principal Hundi Prabha Kamath to attend classes only after he trimmed his hair, shaved his beard and also tied the black shawl to his waist instead of hanging it on neck.
It is learnt, the student’s plea that as an Ayyappa Vrithadhari he cannot trim his hair or shave his beard, went unheard of. The Sri Rama Sene activists who came to know of this incident, entered the College Campus and sat on a protest on Monday, after a heated exchange of words with the Principal.
Reacting to the developments, the Principal said the rules of the college were applicable to all students irrespective of their caste or community affiliations. She also stated that it was the duty of a principal to warn students violating the rules of the institution and initiate disciplinary action against them.
Barke police are at the spot and are keeping a strict vigil.
