Mangalore, Jan 20, 2014: Mangalore city police on Jan 20, Monday arrested two persons in connection with distributing fake Indian currency notes in Katipalla, coming under the limits of Suratkal police station.
The arrested are identified as Sushanth Mandal (20), son of Binoy Mandal, and Sharath Mandal (19), son of Naresh Mandal, hailing from Maldah district in West Bengal.
Speaking at the press meet held at Commissionerate Office on Jan 20, Monday, Mangalore City Police Commissioner R Hithendra said that the arrested had arrived in the city from West Bengal on January 15 with an intention of distributing fake currency notes.
He also said that the duo had rented a room in Katipalla, Suratkal and used to purchase small items from the shop and give the fake currencies of higher denomination and take the real currency as the change. The duo had collected the amount of Rs 40,420 as change from several shops.
The police have seized a total of 81 fake notes of Rs 1000 denomination and 23 fake notes of Rs 500 from the duo. The real currency notes amounting Rs 40,420 were also seized from them.
The fake notes seized from the arrested bear the serial numbers 5GR, 8GQ, 3DV, 6AR, 1CG, 5KF, 1EQ, 4KM, 5TC, 3TE, 9HR, 7DD, 2CH, 9FC and 2FR.
The duo were arrested red handed by the Suratkal police, as per the information provided by the shop owner at Katipalla, who had received the fake note of Rs 1000 on purchase of one bottle juice.
During the interrogation, they informed the police that the fake notes were given for distribution by Saleem hailing from Maldah district in West Bengal.
